Mechanical Torque Multipliers
Torque multipliers are mechanical gearboxes that multiply the torque applied at the input. Thanks to a suitable gear ratio, a small torque set with a hand-held torque wrench can produce output values reaching several or even more than ten thousand Nm. These tools are used for controlled tightening and loosening of bolted joints that require high force. Our range includes Boltmax HX series and JUWEL TYP series multipliers, designed for different torque ranges and different requirements for working accuracy.

How to choose a torque multiplier
Start with the torque required on the joint. The multiplier should offer a margin: we recommend a maximum torque at least about 20% above the highest value you need, so the tool does not regularly work at its upper limit.
Next, consider the gear ratio and the required input torque. The multiplier works with a hand-held torque wrench, so the wrench's range and drive must match the multiplier. Use the torque table supplied with the model rather than relying only on the nominal gear ratio.
Also check the output drive size and socket fit. Input and output sizes vary by model, so the required torque alone is not enough to choose the right set.
The support point is just as important as the torque range
The multiplier must transfer the reaction torque to a stable part of the structure through the reaction arm. Before choosing a model, check where the arm can rest and how much space there is around the joint.
This matters most in machines, structures and other places with limited access, where housing dimensions, reaction arm length and its adjustability can decide whether a multiplier can be used at all.
Boltmax HX or JUWEL TYP?
Both series are driven by a hand-held torque wrench, have overload protection and can also loosen joints. They differ mainly in range, accuracy and equipment.

Boltmax HX covers 1,400 to 5,500 N·m and suits simple, compact mechanical solutions. HX models have ±5% tolerance, overload protection and come with a reaction arm.
JUWEL TYP covers a much wider range, from the TYP-01RS (160-1,200 N·m) up to the TYP-08 (15,000 N·m). Models have a declared accuracy of ±2% and come with a torque table and calibration certificate.
When to choose a multiplier and when a powered nutrunner?
A multiplier works well at high torques when you want a mechanical tool with no power supply and can provide a support point for the reaction arm. It is also practical for work in different locations, where a very long torque wrench would be inconvenient.
For many repetitive joints, cordless torque tools, electric torque multipliers or pneumatic nutrunners may be more convenient, as pace and cycle count matter more.

FAQ
What is the torque multiplication factor?
It depends on the gear ratio of the specific multiplier. For example, a 1:5 ratio means the input torque is multiplied five times at the output. In practice, use the torque table for your model, because the actual output torque also reflects gearbox efficiency, so the required value should not be calculated from the nominal ratio alone.
What is a torque multiplier?
A torque multiplier is another name for a torque amplifier: a mechanical gearbox that multiplies the input torque, so a hand-held torque wrench can produce a much higher output torque. It is used mainly for tightening and loosening large bolted joints when the required torque exceeds the practical range of a standard torque wrench.
