Frequently asked questions
Do all torque tools need to be calibrated?
Yes, all torque tools must be calibrated periodically. The frequency of calibration depends on the type of tool – whether it is a manual tool or a powered one. Guidelines for calibration of manual tools are set out in the ISO 6789-2:2017 standard, and for powered tools the guidelines are provided by their manufacturers.
How often should torque tools be calibrated?
According to the ISO 6789-2:2017 standard, every torque wrench should be calibrated every 5,000 cycles or 12 months. One cycle is understood as one actuation of the wrench mechanism – in the case of mechanical wrenches – or one reading of the torque value – in the case of electronic wrenches.
Does the tool receive a certificate after calibration?
Yes, every tool receives an individual, fully verifiable certificate. The certificate contains the tool's data – manufacturer, model, torque range, unit in which the measurements were taken. It also contains the details of the test bench and of the user of the tool.
Can calibration be carried out at my company's premises?
Yes, we offer calibration services directly at the user's company. For such a service, contact with us is required to arrange a date and to obtain an individual price quote – in the case of tools with electric or pneumatic drive.
What if the wrench fails calibration?
If measurement errors exceed the values permitted by the ISO 6789-2:2017 standard, as part of the service we always attempt to adjust the mechanism. If the mechanism does not respond to adjustment and cannot be calibrated, we inform the user, who also receives a certificate listing the measurement errors along with recommendations for further action – e.g. whether it is worth sending the wrench for repair to the manufacturer's service, or whether the fault or degree of wear qualifies it for replacement.
